I shot my glance over towards him. It never ceased to amaze me how well he knew me and how little effort it took him sometimes to figure me out. “Are you really sure, I don’t want you to say yes because you think you have to.” I was able to say it meaningfully, but inwardly I was really hoping he was sure about all this. I was sure my mom would be a cake walk and if I could get her to side with me my dad would be a little more understanding about it too. All the same I needed to know that Shannon was okay with it first.

I slowed down a bit so I could look at her for a short time without running the risk of hitting a tree. "Izzy, you saw how I get when I'm alone. That today wasn't because of what's in that folder, it's because I'm not used to being alone. Having you around would probably keep me from making best friends with one of the knives in my kitchen." I was dead serious about what I said. The way I was living now seemed very taxing; I had to make an effort to want to get up in the morning.

There were no words to be said. I couldn’t picture Shannon making an attempt to off himself, nor did I want to. The tone of his voice and the look in his eyes was enough to convince me. “Then it’s settled, so long as I get my parents to say yes, which at this point I’m not so sure I’m really going to give them an option.” I went back to looking out the window only to realize we were almost there.

I returned my concentration to driving. "Your dad's not gonna kill me for suggesting it, right?" We got to the street her house was on and I slowed down, not knowing which one it was. The CD switched to Kill Hannah, "Wrap Myself Around You" playing first. "I'm not exactly sure I'm ready to explore the inside of the morgue's metal cabinets yet."

I laughed nonchalantly at his morbid joke. I was sure he was serious but that was something that could not go without being laughed at. “You should be fine, I promise.” I un-did my belt and when he got close enough to my lawn I opened the car door and jumped out of the car and onto the grass. I rolled a few times but finally stopped when I rolled onto my back. The sky had patches of white clouds. It was rather nice. I planned to just lie there until Shannon got around to parking and fetching me off of my lawn.

The action took me by surprise and I wondered slightly if she'd lost her mind. I parked the car at the end of the driveway and locked it, putting the keys back into my pocket. I walked toward Izzy, my hands shoved into my pockets. "Umm... did I miss something?" I grinned crookedly. I wasn't sure what had inspired the random escape.

I looked up at him blissfully. “I just want you to get bored of me, so I’m going to try to be as exciting as possible.” I pushed myself to my feet and gave him no time to say anything before I started pulling him towards my house. When we got through the door the first thing that hit me was the fact that my house smelled something like a bakery. “Mom? Dad? Anyone?” I had not let go of Shannon’s hand as a result he was being drug through my house as I moved about looking for a parental unit. ”Elizabeth it that you?” My eye twitched involuntarily at the mention of my real name. “Yeah dad.” I didn’t stop pulling when I heard the voice; I simply turned my direction to the living room. When I got in I noticed that dad had not gotten out of uniform. His gun was still in his holster, the sight made me squeeze Shannon’s hand a little tighter. “Umm dad this is Shannon. He’s the one I stayed with in Romania when I went.”
I shifted my gaze several times between my dad and Shannon. “Is that so…well it’s nice to finally meet you. My dad smiled but I couldn’t tell if he meant it or not. So instead of beating around the bush I just got on with it. “Umm dad…I would like to….umm….” And that was as far as I got, after that I froze up, and in my sate of utter lack of thought I looked to Shannon hoping he would have something to say. Something that would warm my dad up a little more then my dumb blonde attack was.

I followed her, making a large effort to not trip over my own feet. When we reached the living room, I froze. It was her dad and he was a police officer by the looks of it. I got goosebumps and had to force my brain to function when I realized he was talking to me. My accent was thick because I was nervous. "It's nice to meet you too." It seemed after a couple of long moments that both Izzy and I had frozen up in the speech department.

My dad cantered his head to the side a look of stern confusion on his face. “Elizabeth what is it?” His question seemed more like a statement to me. “I was wondering if maybe during the school year I could live over at Shannon’s house. You see he’s really smart and could help me keep my grades up through the year and if I was with him I could stay out of trouble and if my grades slip or I mess up you can ground me for life…”All my words were coming out in one long breathless strand and I was going to continue but I was cut off when my father simply raised one hand. I thought he was going to flip out on me but instead he turned his placid looking expression in Shannon’s direction once more. I had not let go of his hand and at this point I thought I might break it. ”Let me ask you something son…” He paused for a long moment and then a smile crept slowly onto his lips. ”How is it you got my little girl Elizabeth so worried about her grades? I can never get her to sit down and study let alone swear on her freedom that she would do it and be good on top of that.” With that said he looked back to me and stared for a moment. I was so on edge that I could not read what his expression was trying to tell me. ”Elizabeth…I wanna see you at least once a week for some sort of visit, deal?”

I thought I might die of cardiac arrest when he looked in my direction. "Umm..." I blushed crimson after he had spoken. "I never considered myself very inspirational but..." I trailed off, not entirely sure how to consider the sentence. The tenseness in my muscles reduced a bit when he spoke of the deal. I was sure we would be able to comply but I was still wired to the spot with fear.

I let out a breath that I had been holding for a long while. My lungs sung out in rejoice for the decompression and greatly welcomed the new air. “Sure thing dad.” For the first time since we arrived I let go of Shannon’s hand so that I could hug him. “I promise you won’t be disappointed!” I didn’t give him any time to reconsider I dashed off to the back of my house once more linked to Shannon. I stopped right before my room and turned to him. “I can’t believe he said yes! This is great, you were great!” I tried to keep my voice low but that didn’t hinder the excitement level. I pushed myself onto my toes so that I could reach my arms around his neck in an embrace it was after that, that I loosened my embrace just a little so that I could give Shannon a kiss on the cheek. “I won’t disappoint you either I promise.”

I finally relaxed when we stopped. "Great, yeah. I'm surprised I didn't pass out." I wrapped an arm around her shoulders, blushing again at the kiss. "Don't worry, you can't disappoint me." I went through a small mental checklist of the things she would have to bring with her. My thoughts landed on the subject of holidays after that. I figured her parents would probably have the Christmas festivities here. Oh God, Christmas is gonna be a nightmare...

I watched his eyes as his mind wandered. It was rather amusing to watch them change as his mind raced. What got me is that it seemed his mind hit a hitch in the road, but instead of pestering him I thought it best to distract him instead. I let loose on my neck hold and went into my room. “So what do you think I’m going to need aside from clothes of course?” I smiled warmly still filled with excitement over the whole thing.

I followed her quietly. "Well, shoes obviously. Anything you'll need for school. Essentially anything you would use on a daily basis here." My apartment was very plain. It currently didn't have anything in it that made it attractive. No paintings, sculptures, and especially no mirrors. I hated mirrors unless they were the ones I had broken and painted so they were no longer functional. "Anything you want to bring. The room's pretty big so you could fit a lot of stuff in there."

After a long couple of hours, and what seemed like an endless amount of boxes a majority of my room had been packed up and put in the car. Needless to say there were a couple of trips involved given the size of the car and the amount of stuff. But now my room was an empty shell of what it had once been. I flopped down onto the coverless mattress that was once my bed. “Well that was fun, but now I’m beat.” I looked over to Shannon and smiled. “Thank you for all your help.”
