Tryout for Cheer Captain: I walked into the gym with my warm up clothes on and some other things needed in my black and white duffle bag. I dropped the large bag by the bleachers and pulled out my water bottle. I promptly set it next to my bag so that I could reach it if I needed it. After retrieving my water bottle I pulled out a mini stereo to plug into the wall. I was certain that the school wouldn’t miss the small amount of money it was going to cost to have music while the cheer squad warmed up and practiced.
With everything set up I pushed the power button on the stereo so that I could set the music to track three. “Alright peeps, it’s time to get our cheer rears in gear.” I pointed to one of the girls whom looked like she was on the same level of ‘ready to go that I was’. “Now that were a team that makes us a family in it’s own cheesy way, which is why I would like to share the leading spot with you all. Every day someone else in the ‘family’ will lead warm ups. It just seems like a good way to get to know more about the physical strengths and weaknesses of one another. ” I turned the volume up a little on the stereo as I watched the other girl proudly move to the front of the group.
It was clear that she knew how to warm up; my guess was experience from other sports. After our single stretches I had the girls work on some group stretches and trust exercises that were taught at camp. From what I could see this team was set for whatever this school or any other could throw at them. Needless to say at first I was concerned with what I was going to be working with but I found out shortly that maybe being a on a cheer team wasn’t as bad as I had originally predicted.
