I grinned devilishly and sat carefully in my spot on the couch before placing my icy cold hands on the back of her neck. I wasn't sure if it would have an effect but it was worth a try. The PS2 when through its usual rituals with all the annoying sound effects. I clicked through the ones that I could, and ignored the ones I couldn't.

My eyes popped wide open and I flipped off the couch. Instead of trying to move I decided that at least down here I couldn’t fall anymore. With my face in the floor I spoke. “Shannon…good night.” Was all I had to say to him at this point. Not that he could tell but I was almost smiling.

I stretched out on my stomach on the couch and looked down at her over the edge. My expression was completely blank and the tone of my voice was flat. "That carpet's not clean, you know." Honestly, I had probably tracked in a lot of dirt and I wasn't sure when the carpet was last shampooed or even vacuumed really.

I pushed myself off the floor and laid on Shannon instead. “There, now I’m going to sleep.” This time my half smile was a full smirk. I had meant it as a joke but the warmth of his body was making me more tired then I was before.

"Hmm..." The sound probably translated much louder through my back. I picked up the controller again, making my character run in circles to avoid being hit even though it actually had no effect and didn't help at all. There were so many things about this game that I could make fun of but I felt too calm to do so at the moment.

I slowly forced open one of my eyes so that I could view the current game that Shannon was taking an interest in. I couldn’t help but snigger lightly when I saw that he was just running around in circles. “Umm what are you doing exactly?” I wasn’t anything remotely close to a game master, but I knew that running in circles was not generally apart of the actual gaming experience.

I chuckled lightly, continuing the ridiculous action. "I'm pretending that this helps." My character in-game doubled back to hit the pursuer once before continuing to run fruitlessly in circles. It always intrigued me how no matter how far away my character was, the antagonist always managed to reach me. It was like he was stretch Armstrong or something. But then again, most games didn't adhere to the laws of physics anyway.

“And umm how is that pretending thing working out for yah?” I could already see the answer for myself but it seemed far more amusing to let him tell me in his own words. I re-positioned myself just the slightest bit and continues to watch, perhaps a little more marveled by the movement on the screen then I should have been.

I pouted petulantly. "It's going great. That's why my health is at 60% and his is at 95." I pointed at the screen, not that it helped since I could be pointing at anything on the screen and my hand would be in the same position. My character took a swing at his pursuer again and the large word, 'MISS' popped up on my screen. "How come he never misses, huh?"

I laughed lightly, trying my hardest to stifle it. “Perhaps it’s because he’s a computer?” I finally ceased the laughter, not that it helped me find the spectacle any less humorless. “Maybe you should get back at him with a cheat code!” I wasn’t sure if this was the sort of game that allowed cheat codes like The Sims did, but it sounded like helpful suggestion to me.

I laid my head face down in the pillow, my thumbs continuing to move my character in circles. "This game doesn't have cheat codes..." My voice was muffled by the pillow. Somehow, my character managed to avoid being hit even though I couldn't see where I was directing him. Thank God for a gambit system.
