I nodded when he mentioned the walking situation, and when another clap of thunder sounded off I took Shannon’s arm hostage in my grip like it was a giant teddy bear. “I wish the thunder would hold off to, it would be nice.” I kept up with Shannon’s pace so that my clinging would not become an inconvenience to him.

I looked upward, toward the sky. "Well, technically, it's just clouds fighting with each other. Lightning is what you really have to be worried about. It can kill you." We hadn't ventured far into the woods and I could see the way out of the woods in front of us. It would be a short trip back home and we would probably get there without being drenched in a torrential rainfall.

Shannon’s explanation made me feel a little better and at the same time offset me. “Umm that’s charming Birdy, anything else you would like to let me know, like the percent chance of getting hit? I would love to know how high my chances are of death.” I smiled up at him, I was sure he heard the laughter in my voice.

I grinned devilishly. "Well, your chances of being struck by lightning are 576,000 to 1. The chances of dying from a lightning strike are 2,320,000 to 1." I stopped when we reached the edge of the forest. "Essentially, it is very unlikely that anything will happen." I looked around where we were. "Of course, those chances increase with the amount of metal and/or water present."

“Shannon I’m not sure if you’re trying to help me felt better or scare me more.” I let go of his arm and waited till he was just far enough ahead, to help I stepped back then I ran up and jumped on his back. “I promise this is for your protection. You see I’m saving you from a shot in the back. The world can do with one less blonde, but not one less Romanian sweetheart genius.” I leaned forward as far as I could and kissed him on the cheek.

I smiled and wrapped my arms around the back of her knees so she wouldn't slip. "Thanks but I think the bullet would probably hit us both. You're a bit too thin to use as a shield." I could be pessimistic sometimes. Optimism was difficult to keep up with in the midst of a situation like the one I was stuck in.

I pouted childishly for a moment, but let if fade just as quickly. I really didn’t want Shannon to see me acting like a child. “Well if that’s how you see it.” I poked him on the nose quickly. “I feel the need to let you know that I’ve grown attached to my spot up here so I plan to stay here unless you dump me.” At the mention of it I braced myself just incase he decided to do just that.

I half considered it as a mean joke. "I do believe if I tried, you would hang on and the resulting shift in weight would most likely send us both to the ground. You would be the unfortunate one that I would fall on though." It was obvious that I had way too much time on my hands and had spent way too much time reading.

I went to say something but consequently decided that there was no point. Shannon would just find a way to poke a hole in it. Instead I laid my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes. There was no reason to complain, none in the world.

I abruptly realized that I had no idea where we were going. "Um, Izzy, where are we supposed to be going?" Rath and Ruins sometimes flooded in storms. I didn't exactly want to go there. I was sure The Underground flooded... since it was... underground and all. I stopped momentarily to look up and check the clouds to see how close the storm was.

I didn’t bother to lift my head; I was to worn out for that at this point. Instead I gave my head a few lazy shakes. “I don’t know Birdy, would you be terribly heart broken if I asked to go back home?” I was now living with him so I figured it to be less of a hassle to get there then my old place.

I shrugged. "Works for me. Video game console is calling my name anyway. That's what I usually do on rainy days. Either that or watch it rain." I hardly ever did any art work on rainy days. It usually spoiled the mood and made it morbid. Any work I did on rainy days never turned out pretty. It was always warped in some way.
The walked back home didn't take long. I unlocked the door and kicked it shut. I walked into the living room and sat down on the couch, giving Izzy enough room behind me. I pulled my shoes off with my toes and kicked them toward the corner.

I flopped over onto m side not really bothering to climb out from behind him. I was lying it what may have usually been an uncomfortable position but given the circumstances I was going to make it work, simply because I didn’t want to work to move. “What are you going to play?”

"Hmmm..." I looked at the stack of games on the coffee table. I popped Final Fantasy XII out of its case and handed the box to her while I went over to the PS2 to put the game in. "It's entertaining but all the little flying lines annoy me." I was determined to finish this game someday. I always seemed to get stuck somewhere in the game.

I nodded a few times while fighting to keep my eyes open. I wasn’t sure what exactly he had said but I was sure that even if I were fully awake I would need some sort of explanation.
