I was coming to the school for the first time. I had picked up my schedule and supply list at the front office. I was carrying my black messenger bag filled with all the supplies I would need for school. My locker number was 1331. This school is enormous... Rows and rows of lockers lined the halls broken only by other hallways and doors to classrooms. I finally found my locker and placed all my supplies in it. This way, I wouldn't have to carry it on the first day of school.
I had stuffed my iPod in my pocket before coming and I was listening to Hawthorne Heights at full volume. I decided to explore the school a bit so I would know the general layout. The floors had a large black and white diamond pattern on them and the walls were a gray brick. The doors were metal with frosted glass. All the lockers were a light gray color. The desaturated color scheme made the school look like a science laboratory or a hospital. Everything about it seemed overly clean and organized.
I found the gym and the sign-up sheets for sports. I signed my name and phone number on the list for the soccer team. I figured it was about time I did something sports related. After finishing up in the gym, I went in search of the art room. It was conveniently located on the other side of the school. When I finally got there, I looked around a bit before signing up for art club. The room had high ceilings and the exterior walls were glass, letting natural light into the room. I stood over by a window looking out on the school grounds. The campus truly was bigger than any I had seen before.

I had been following Shannon at a distance, just waiting for the right time to jump about and scare him. Finally the window distracted him and it was time to act. I was just about to make my move when an evil table leg decided to act first. I went to save myself by grabbing onto the table but only succeeded in smacking my hand and landing on the floor. By now I had to have been found out. Not only that but I also looked like a moron.

Due to the fact that my music was so loud, I actually didn't hear a thing. I placed my hand on the window ledge and leaned my shoulder into the corner of the wall I was near. I stretched my back, making the vertebrae crack loudly. It was a little cloudy outside, hinting at a storm that might be coming. I clicked the forward button on my iPod, switching the song to Placebo's "The Crawl". I was used to listening to my music loud but it did have quite a few downfalls.

I peeled my face off of the eerily clean floor. Shannon was completely unaware of the fact that I was here. Instead of risking another face plant I cleared the rest of the distance by more-a-less dragging myself across the floor. To get his attention I latched my hand around his ankle and waited for him to look down.

I jumped at the contact and tried unsuccessfully to pick my foot up off the floor. I looked down and turned my iPod off. The way she had a hold of my foot reminded me of Fatal Frame. "Uhh... Izzy, what are you doing?" I couldn't think of any other way to respond.

I looked up at him as best I could. “Oh yah know making friends with the anti-bacterial beings on the floor of this hospital like school.” I smiled weakly and then let go of his ankle so that I could stand up. [/b]“I can’t get enough of those floors…”[/b] I put my hand up to my forehead where I was sure there was going to be some sort of mark by now.[/color]

I wondered vaguely how she had gotten on the floor but dismissed it after a moment. "This place is really clean. Maybe they're going to perform experiments on us instead of teach us." I stuck my iPod in my pocket and crossed my arms across my chest. "At least we don't have to wear uniforms... Can't have them suppressing my individuality."

I cringed when I heard uniforms. “I hope that they don’t randomly instate that rule this year. That would be awful.” The idea of Shannon in a uniform made me want to hurt myself. “Shannon I’m not going to lie to you, the idea of you in a uniform makes me want to cry.” I smiled warmly at him so that the last statement seemed more endearing then it came out sounding.

I nodded. "Yeah I know. We'd all look the same..." I cringed at the thought. From what I'd seen, the color scheme of the school was gray. That meant that the uniforms would probably also be gray. "I think the amount of gray would overwhelm us."
"Some schools have uniforms that actually look nice but I don't think this school would go along those lines... but who knows, they might surprise us."

I stared at him with a blank expression. “Don’t say that…now you know were doomed to have uniforms.” I palmed my face and shook my head. “Well I suppose it could be worse.” I pulled my hand away and let it fall back to my side. “I mean if they do happen to give us uniforms, at least you’re here with me to make it a little better.” My stare faded and I started to smile instead.

I smiled gently. "I'm not magic. They won't give us uniforms just because I mentioned it." I crossed my legs at the ankles, still leaning casually against the wall. "It would be strange to wear the same thing everyday. It would also be difficult to pick people out of the crowd."

I nodded in agreement to his last statement. “I find it necessary to be able to find you on a moments notice. Uniforms would make that really hard.” I let out a frustrated sigh, which was a sign of me concluding my thought. “So not to jump topics but what do you think of it here so far?”

I sighed and shrugged nonchalantly. "It was nice to be able to drop everything and start all over again. Though I'm still remembering more than I'd like to forget." I wasn't sure if that rather cryptic sentence would make sense or not. It didn't totally make sense to me at the moment. New beginnings always made me think more than necessary.

I nodded trying to look like I understood. I wanted to but I was not as savvy in the ways of deep thinking as he was. “Well I hope this year will be one of your better ones. Ya know filled with more things you’ll want to remember then won’t.” I shuffled only inches over to a table and sat on it not really worried about what others would think.

"Funny thing how the memory works. It holds on tightly to the most embarrassing and the most painful memories but the pleasant ones that you want to keep are thrown out. It seems that its trying to destroy you in the process..." I'm sure I sounded brooding at the moment so I shut up and went over to the table and sat next to her. I planned to force this year to be a good one if I was capable of doing so.
