I slammed my locker door shut for the last time this week. It was finally Friday and I had no plans aside from the simple idea that I wanted chill out and hang with Shannon. I looked out one of the windows near my locker that gave me a view of the outside. The leaves were beginning to fall and it brought an almost evil look to my face. The season of fall meant my favorite holiday, Halloween. I was aware that it was more then a month and a half away but that didn’t stop my mind from plotting. I turned with my bag secured on my shoulder and headed for Shannon’s locker hoping my smile would seem less vicious by the time I got there.

I was leaning against my locker door. My shoulder was against the top of the door and my messenger bag was between my hip and the lower part of the door. I was wearing my usual jeans and band t-shirt but I had also put on one of my black zip up hoodies since the weather had gotten colder. I had already been sick and was still getting over it. I didn't particularly want to relive it a week later. I saw Izzy coming down the hall and smiled crookedly. My hands were shoved in the pockets of my hoodie.

I strolled right up next to Shannon and linked my arm with his. It worked out a lot nicer given that he had his hand in his pocket. “So I was getting my things and the thought of Halloween crossed my mind, what do you think on the matter?” I gave a light tug on his arm to let him know that I was about to begin walking.

"Hmmm...." I looked around thoughtfully. "What exactly am I considering?" I smiled devilishly. Halloween had been a distant dream of my childhood. There had been no fun too it until now. Better late than never, I suppose. The idea of a Halloween party sparked in my mind. "Party. Jase could do the setup for us."

I laughed lightly when his devilish smile surfaced. “Yes that’s just what I was thinking, we could also make Jase a Halloween prop while were at it, he’s scary enough.” Usually the idea of Jase was unpleasant, but in this instant he was just what was called for. “We should help each other pick out costumes this afternoon.” My mind jumped to one of the party stores in town that was sure to be ready for Halloween by now.

I nodded. My thoughts were already rolling over the possibilities. "I could call Jase when we get home. For now, we need to get going." I dug my car keys out of my pocket. We were getting closer to the doors of this God-awful long school. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do for Halloween but I was sure it was going to be fun.

I gasped playfully and said in a tone full of mock enthusiasm. “Maybe I should be a cheerleader for Halloween!” I gave a thumb up; only to let the glee fall out faster then it had come. “Sorry it was bound to come up sooner or later, I chose sooner.” Finally we had reached the door. I pushed the one in front of me open and was no sooner greeted by the crisp autumn air. It was greatly welcomed. “It’s nice out.”

I mock shuddered. "Cheerleaders... uck." I smiled playfully, ready to jump out of the way if she decided to retaliate physically. The wind gusted through the doors gently, stirring the strands of hair falling across my eyes. I could smell the crisp leaves that had already begun to fall.

“I know right, those cheerleaders are the worst, in fact I forbid you to ever date one.” I smirked back having perhaps a bit too much fun with the idea of whom he was allowed to date. I looked around at other girls all around whom seemed to be looking at him, with lustful eyes no less. In response I couldn’t help but stare evilly at the prospecting bimbos. I wanted to take his arm to let them know hands off but that was not my business, so instead I looked forward figuring it best not to provoke them anymore then I may already have.

I smiled innocently. "You think they would actually want to be anywhere near me? They avoid me like the plague." I was completely oblivious to the silent war she was having with the other girls. I hadn't even noticed them as we walked by. The school parking lot was pretty empty but there were a few people left talking by their cars.

I looked back to him, knowing that he would help me better reconcile my hate towards the other females. “Well then I take pride in knowing that I am the only cheerleader that you ever associate with.” I gave a light fist tap to his bicep a very thankful grin on my face.

"Cheerleaders aren't my type anyway." I glanced at her out of the corner of my eye, to see how she would react to that statement. Mentally, I didn't group her in with the cheerleaders. She was just my best friend who happened to be a cheerleader, not vice-versa. The others seemed to like ignoring me and I was okay with that.

“Well if that’s the case I can quit the squad.” I half smiled, but didn’t look at him this time. I figured a change in his general posture or maybe what he said next or how he said it would be all I gather to get a general idea of where things were at, at this point. His car was getting closer but I didn’t plan to let that stop me.

I stopped and turned to look at her. "I don't want you to change for me." I turned back toward the direction we were walking. "Don't ever change for someone else. If that's what they want from you, they aren't worth it." I surreptitiously pressed the button on the car remote, unlocking it.

I opened the passenger door and took my shotgun position in silence. I had not counted on that particular response so I had to take a moment to figure a response. I had to wait for him to join me in the car, and as unready as I felt I knew I had to ask. “Shannon…do you ever think…or have you ever thought about the idea of us…well dating?” I forced myself to look over to him. My hands started to feel sweaty and slightly shaky, but I ignored it for now.
